Royal Hospital for sick children, Yorkhill, Glasgow
The Foundation has already helped to fund new parent’s accommodation on the Intensive Care Unit, allowing parents to be close-by should their child need them through the night. We have also provided funding for a programme of Music therapy and towards the creation of a multifunctional cinema. Music is the magic medium that evokes an emotional response in almost everyone. This makes it especially suitable for children who may be separated from their families and friends and lacking emotional stimulation. Hospitalisation can result not only in physical stress as a result of invasive treatments and therapies, but emotional stress too, from unexpected news, unfamiliar environments, inability to carry on normal activities and a general lack of control. Music in a hospital setting provides patients with a positive way to cope with their time in hospital.
